It's a little known fact that the first self-replicating machine was named "Amelia" after its inventor's pet ferret. In Indonesia if you should find yourself the victim of bad luck, you are encouraged to change your name. Maybe the thinking there is that you can cheat fate as you might a greedy bill collector. Maybe the thinking there is that names themselves have a specific karma to them, the ideas contained in the language in a name reach back into the past ,denoting some spiritual recipe mostly unknown to people, giving the name bearer an atomic dry fate, if you will. I think I was wise not only to change my name but perhaps I should find a way to convince someone else to take up my old name, just to see what fate had in mind for me. Amelia seems like it must be a bad name to me, for who wants to be self-replicating? Put "self-replicating " on your Friendster profile, see how many emails you get for dates.

This is me picking up the ball rolled my way by the Eye Of The Goof.
